Tsuru Series of Paintings

Origami, the art of folding paper into a sculpture, is an age-old tradition in Japanese culture.  The goal is to transform a flat square sheet of paper into a finished sculpture through folding and sculpting techniques. Traditionally, the paper crane is the first sculpture to be taught. I remember as a child, learning this lesson from my mother, and the excitement that I felt when I folded my first paper crane. There is something very special about the art and experience of origami and the custom of passing on this art form from one generation to the next, which is what my series of Tsuru (crane) paintings aims to represent.
